Packing up your home and moving everything somewhere new, whether it’s near or far, is an overwhelming experience. Not only is moving a big life change, but there’s a lot of work that goes into making it all happen.
With plenty to do and plenty to pack, forgetting to pack things can be a big problem. Unfortunately, you probably won’t realize that you’ve forgotten something until it’s too late. Here’s a list of some of the most commonly forgotten items around the home during a move, so you know what to look out for.
Washer/Dryer – For many, the washer and dryer simply feel like a part of our home. If you purchased this equipment, or even if it came with the house, it’s still yours to take (unless you agree to give it up in the contract). If it isn’t a deal-breaker for whoever is buying your home, you will definitely want to take these with you.
Window Treatments – Similar to the washer and dryer, window treatments feel like they’re ingrained in the home, but you have the option to take them, unless the new homeowner requests otherwise. Just like the washer and dryer, bringing these along can save a lot of money, especially if you really love the current window treatments that you have and would replace your next destination’s treatments anyway.
Toilet Paper – Toilet paper might not be the most expensive thing to forget, but you will miss them quickly when you haven’t had the chance to go to the store yet after moving in at your new place. Rather than just leaving that full roll of toilet paper hanging in the bathroom, grab it. It will come in handy soon enough.
Items in Closets, Drawers, and on Shelves – The cabinets above the fridge and hard-to-reach shelves are places that we tend to forget even exist. It isn’t hard to overlook these places during a hectic move either. Clothes, jewelry, and other important items can be hidden in these areas. Make sure to check every area. Simply trying to swipe your hand across a hard-to-reach spot is a surefire way to leave something behind.
It isn’t hard to forget something during a move. These are some of the major things to keep in mind, but the best way to make sure that you’re not forgetting anything is to give yourself plenty of time and do a thorough job when packing.
