When it comes to moving, staying organized is one of the keys to success. You have to be on the ball at all times no matter how tired you might be. Also, moving isn’t just a one day event…moving starts the minute you find out you’re going some place else. Even through the process can be stressful, it is still fun and exciting and to help focus on the fun part and less on the stressful part, you can download one of several free apps–My Things.
Basically, My Things is an electronic inventory list of everything you have and where everything is kept. It is a really cool, interactive, and functional list that will hopefully compel you to keep good track of your things so you don’t have to question the location or condition of anything you own.
I like this My Things mainly for the picture features. Instead of just writing down “family room table–in storage unit,” you can take a picture of your table actually sitting in the storage unit. Instead of saying, “desktop computer, moving van, good condition,” you can take a picture of that big, fancy monitor you just bought that is now packed onto the moving van to show it’s quality and it’s location. That’s awesome.
My Things organizes your belongings primarily by where they are stored. There are 5 categories that come with the app and you can can more as you need them. My Things gives you: At Home, At Work, Storage, Move, and For Travel to get you started with the categories. As you click on the categories, like Storage, you can itemize what you have in there and take pictures of all of it. You don’t have to question whether the dog house is on the moving van or in storage because you have pictures of where that item is kept.
Lastly, the My Things inventory lists can be saved or shared via DropBox or iCloud and can be exported via Export CSV. That’s cool. This way you don’t have to worry about not having access to your inventory list.
Moving is all about logistics and planning. This functional iPad or iPhone app is free and easy to use. Take advantage of all of it’s great features to help you keep a running inventory list. This helpful tool can keep you organized and keep you from guessing where your things are.
