The easiest way to eliminate clutter and reduce wastes is to buy durable and recyclable goods and use them over and over again. However innovations, updated features, and styles are constantly changing, making it hard to want to stick with the old. Eventually it is “out with the old and in with the new”, right? Right…

If you take a look at your closet, your garage, your storage unit, you will realize most individuals’ mentality is just “in with the new”.  How can we cut down on clutter, waste, and maybe save ourselves a few bucks?

Reduce: Rent or Borrow! If you are thinking about purchasing something that you will seldom use, try renting or borrowing it from a friend. Some things that can be rented are:

  •     Digital Camera/ Video Recorder
  •     Formal Wear and Costumes
  •     Furniture and appliances for parties
  •     Tools
  •     Truck or Car
  •     Bikes

Leasing or renting a car can be a great way to save money when getting around town.
  •     Cell Phones
  •     Textbooks
  •     Camping gear
  •     Caskets
  •     Designer Handbags

Recycle: Use it again: Buy used items and use old items over and over again. Even simple things like plastic bags, gift-wrapping paper, and plastic sandwich bags can be reused.

Proper Disposal: Dismantle objects and start saving items to be recycled monthly. Did you know all of these things can be recycled:

  • Glass containers
  • Office paper
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel and bi-metallic cans
  • Plastics
  • Electronics such as printers, televisions, computers, cell phones, etc.
  • Cardboard
  • Batteries
  • CDs, DVDs, and Game Disks
  • Glasses
  • Foam Packing
  • Oil
  • Gold
  • Toothbrushes and Razors
  • Tennis shoes

Reuse:  Donate your old clothes or any old products that could be used by another

Maybe YOU don't want to reuse some of your things, but somebody else might! Consider a donation bin instead of the trash bin.

individual. Places to donate general goods include:

  • Goodwill
  • Salvation Army
  • Vietnam Veterans of America
  • Volunteers of America
  • Operations Give
  • Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation

Resell: You may have nice items you never use and are very reluctant to donate, so try reselling it! To resell items, try having a garage sale or listing items on craigslist, Facebook, or even in your work office.
